Plain solitaires. Brilliant Earth listed its simplest solitaire settings from $650 (a four-prong 1.5mm comfort-fit band) to $750 (the Petite Elodie and Freesia bands)1. Blue Nile's classic 2.5mm comfort-fit solitaire in 14K yellow gold was $9352.
What raises the price. Platinum instead of 14K gold, a cathedral or bezel head, and small diamonds on the band. At Blue Nile the petite cathedral solitaire in platinum was $1,635, against $1,240 for a tapered cathedral in 14K yellow gold2. Brilliant Earth's Peyton bezel solitaire with added diamonds was $2,5501.
Why it matters for the budget. With a laboratory-grown centre stone the setting can cost as much as the stone: a $650 to $1,000 setting against a 1.5 carat laboratory-grown stone listed near $1,000 on the same morning (see laboratory-grown prices). With a natural stone the setting is a small share of the total.
What to check. The metal and karat, whether the price shown is for the setting only (Blue Nile labels it "Setting Price"2), resizing terms, and whether the setting can hold the shape and weight of your stone.

Some jewelers will set a stone you bring and some will not. Ask before you buy; we did not find a published policy on the pages we read.
Not on the setting pages we read: Blue Nile labels the figure "Setting Price"2, and the centre stone is priced on its own.
We do not earn anything from purchases today. Every product link is a plain link to the merchant's own page, without an affiliate code. We may join merchants' affiliate programs in the future, and this notice will say so before that changes.
Diamond listings change by the hour: stones sell, prices move and sales start and end. Every price here is the merchant's listed price on the date shown. The merchant's own page is the final word on price, availability and terms.
RingPrice Index does not sell jewelry, does not grade stones and does not take your details. We read merchants' public listing pages and report what they showed.
